Dear relatives and acquaintances
Dear members and friends of our family association
"Not only do we travel to other places, but above all we travel to other constitutions of our own soul." With this quote from Werner Bergengruen, I warmly welcome all of you to the new year of the association. Bergengruen has dared to lose his good name for serious prose with this humorous writing with his book "Spawn of the Heart". In this book, which appeared in 1932, he expects "with the snobbery of modern tourists" (Ortwin Fink). The quote appealed to me because as a member of a small tour group, which made its way to Storbeck and Berlin last May, I did not feel like a tourist in the modern sense.
Of course the stay in Berlin was characterized by incredibly many and fantastic impressions of tourism, but mainly it was for me a trip to relatives, which I had never met and to which there was a kind of "soul bondage for centuries". As a reminder, there are various reports and pictures in this year's newsletter to give all those at home an impression of their experiences. At the same time, I would like to thank all the members of the Stirnemann family in Storbeck for the unforgettable visit and the kind hospitality in Neuruppin and Storbeck.
Living means "meeting." True to this motto and the beautiful memories of our trip to our family members, the board has decided to organize another trip to Colmar in early summer 2017 to join Georges Stirnemann. The description and the application form a separate supplement to this newsletter and I am pleased if many members of the association register. By the way, this time the journey will not take place in high air, but in the travel car.
This year's newsletter appears in the usual framework. In the sense of a hint, I would like to draw your attention to the present to our relatives in Storbeck, a Victorinox pocket knife. This has engraved our heritage and the coat of arms and can be purchased.
Again and again I write the same sentence: "Unbelievable, how fast time passes." Soon I have to change this into "how fast time passes," because another year has passed. One advantage is quite clear. So our meetings seem to be in the spotlight every month, and when "life" is also called "meeting", many meetings with interesting discussions in Gisikon are held on the occasion of the board meetings. I really appreciate that and would like to cordially thank all members of the Executive Board for their great support and cooperation.
I would like to thank you, dear friends and acquaintances of our family association, for your support and your presence. Surely some of you will be traveling this year. I wish you very special happy conquests of the soul and all of us for the whole year of the association all the best and good health.
With kind regards
President Beat Stirnimann
Welcome by our President Beat Stirnimann, May 16, 2015 in Storbeck
Dear family members of the Stirnemann family in Storbeck, dear Relatives and acquaintances in Storbeck, dear members and friends of our family association from Storbeck / Neuruppin, esteemed ladies and gentlemen.
Almost in the excitement of a father whose daughter brought her boyfriend home for the first time and introduces her to the parents, I now stand before you. In the first encounter, face to face, it is difficult to find the right words. Although many have already heard, seen or read from each other, but now applies: a first look - a first greeting - a first handshake.
And the blood is pounding in my veins. No, it's more than just getting to know each other. For more than 300 years ago, exactly in 1695, a group of people from Aargau (CH) moved to the high order, where efficient workers were sought. They were people named Stirnemann, V turned to our ancestors. They probably did not know each other even then, probably even not even know each other, and yet remains today a bond that expresses itself deeper than just in "getting to know". So here I stand and search for my first words:
Last fall 2014, as usual, a board meeting of our family association took place. While we were busy discussing and looking for ideas about future projects and activities, our member of the board, Moritz Stirnimann from Lucerne, commented on a visit to our relatives in Storbeck. This idea immediately met with unanimous enthusiasm, especially as earlier contacts had taken place, but these had meanwhile flattened.
Thus, Moritz Stirnimann, Lucerne, quickly began to organize and soon a traveling group formed, which under its expert guidance took the long way to Storbeck under the feet.
We were very curious about what that day would look like. The day is here and we are happy to spend it in the circle of Stirnemann and Stirnimann. This means all Stirnefrauen and Stirnifrauen with an attachment.
It is nice to know that some of us already knew each other in person, in advance our present Honorary President Josef Stirnimann-Haas, who maintained contacts with Heinz and Liselotte Stirnemann and was already present in Storbeck.
It has always been interesting to me and I am also very proud to know members of the association in our neighbor state Germany. As a young member of the association I was present at a conference in which the deceased Heinz Stirnemann and his wife Liselotte took part in Ruswil, at that time notebene from the GDR, who had given the two a visa.
Years later, I remember as president, we expressed our attachment to our relatives in Storbeck by donating to the church, which needed renewal.
Arrival in Neuruppin
And finally, I know at the latest, if I keep the membership fee as usual as a bill and greeting directly by post from Storbeck in the hands: The front men are there, thank you.
Addition: As a small gift from Switzerland, we have taken a Victorinox bag knife, which can be useful as a key chain. The following symbolism was mentioned by the president: Small and Swiss coat of arms: Like Switzerland, early provenance of Storbecker Stirnemann
Iron Rings:
Tool:
Light:
Ballpoint Pens: Write an emblem for letters, stay in touch
Travelogue
Neuruppin - Berlin - Storbeck - a trip to the "relatives" 14. - 17. May 2015
Thursday: An SMS arrives at my mobile phone at 7:00 am: "Reservation Familienverband Stirnimann in the second to last car, her SBB travel agency." Inner unrest; I wonder if everyone will arrive punctually? Then seven fifty, Lucerne station, first sniffing, I count, twelve people, all there ... then first talks on the train. At the airport the many people, bustle, a forest of signs, check in number three. We stand in line; the mood is solved, then we put our luggage on the ribbons; at the counter first excitement "what's your name?" and long spelling begins, a discussion and waiting, until the last are then looped through just before boarding by an airport helper.
"Everyone on board," I think, and the A319 takes off, I breathe. The meager snack barely dispels our hunger, the flight is short, the landing gently, the luggage transfer works and in the TXL bus we drive to "Alex," where on the TV tower at 207 meters altitude a wonderful view and a delicious meal awaits us , The mood is relaxed and cheerful, the sun retires discreetly. The group has found each other and in a friendly conversation we walk past the Marienkirche to the Neptunbrunnen and from there to the Berliner Dom. Art historical about the church mingles with the amazement of the audience that the imposing building is only a little more than a hundred years old.
A concert prevents the sightseeing; We walk to the Old National Gallery, admire an Armenian, Turkish, oriental or some kind of wedding on the Friedrich-Bücke, then drive to the Landbergerallee in the Tram. The entrance examination in the hotel is a bit complicated: in the registration form ends the age at 30+, the nice young woman politely speaks to me, I should read to the group house rules, e.g. that one is liable for demolishing the inventory ... and to keep the night at 23h. We happily move into rooms 212 to 219 to meet around the corner for dinner half an hour later. There is this little Italian who pushes tables together until everyone finds a place. The food is good and not so expensive, but costs a pizza Margherita just under 6 euros. The wine buzzes, but gradually the rows clear and tired Stirnimänner go to bed …
Group photo Schloss Charlottenburg
Friday, the Berlintag. I go out early; I want to make sure, where the landing stage of the shipping company Winkler really lies, because I do not know this part of the city. So go on, S-Bahn 42 to Jungfernheide, then through the castle park and left out again, across the street and there are the ships ... Punctually at 8.45 h are 12 expectant Swiss in front of the hotel, relaxed and well fed, to take off ready. S-Bahn 42, morning mood on the train, commuters get on and off. In the park a wonderful, sunny morning. Country air in the middle of the city. The group photo is taken in front of the castle; History and history must be listened to, and we spontaneously visit the newly renovated east wing of the castle: actually, I just want to show the ballroom, beguiling Rococo, probably originated around the time when our relatives immigrated here. Now is hurry: our ship leaves at 11h; Fortunately, the places reserved, in the best location on the front deck. Let's go. We learn that Berlin has more bridges than Venice and Amsterdam together, we see from the water, what moves Berlin, we admire from below, what we could catch on yesterday from above ... Government district, new and impressive, the Museum Island, the cathedral impressive, majestic, the locks, the old harbor, the remains of the walls, the Landwehr Canal and, and, and ... actually enough for the day. But the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche was still missing, a must for me; the new, state-of-the-art Potsdamer Platz, the Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden ... was missing ... yes, admittedly, a bit much for a day ... at the Hackescher Markt we put a long table, it gets cool and we eat warm, maybe a little too fast, but we sit here comfortably and warmly kept by blankets in the middle of a city so big for us. The mood in the group keeps splendid, the outcome is short. Berlin tours make you sleepy.
Saturday: relatives visit in Storbeck: S-Bahn 42 to Gesundbrunnen; change to Hennigsdorf. Trains enter and leave; Swiss are an impatient people; They want to get on every train until the Hennigsdorfer finally arrives: and again we learn how huge the city is. Change in Hennigsdorf and get out to Neu-Ruppin. Fields as far as the eye can see, forests, meadows whiz by, Bran denburg seems endless. Then Neu-Ruppin, Rheinsberger-Tor. Two men are waiting for us and somebody says: "We see us like my cousin ..." And then it really is our cousins Reiner and Jürgen Stirnemann. Warm welcome. Then we let us lead us through the Fontane city, which has a lot to offer and enjoy a wonderful lake cruise. Then three vehicles lead us out to Storbeck .... A tour through the 250-Seelendorf leads us to the old school, in the Rainer and Jürgen still pushed the school. Fun and laughter, the anecdotes of yesteryear. Then we stand in front of the church, which was rebuilt by the settlers around 1700. The spirit of yesteryear still lives in this old and simply furnished church.
He is almost tangible in this pioneering spirit, the diligence of the hands, who worked here in hard work, courageously seeking and finding a new existence in community and faith. Outside in the cemetery we found the people whose resting place testifies to their lives ... Lord, let them rest in peace; - and the eternal light shines on them. - And so we turn back to life. In the community center of the village, we are awaited by a family for a happy talk about life here in Brandenburg and there in Switzerland, about the things of life, the worries and joys. Then we say goodbye to Storbeck, of dear people, of V, happy to have tied the ties again …
The evening falls and we get drunk with an aperitif at Schiffbauer-Damm; Most of the Italians want to eat ... cosa desidera di più?
Sunday: Again I invite for a walk; From the "Alex" we march in the morning sunshine through the Nicolai district. Despite the nice weather, a cold stream blows against us; Berlin is often quick, that's how I feel. We cross the Spree, over which we admire the statue of Hildegard (Gertraude?), No the rat at the foot of the statue. Now we stroll on; High-rise quarters to the left, houses from the 1920s, urban living quarters to the right. At Hausvogteiplatz we stumble across a monument that is reminiscent of the once flourishing Jewish textile industry in Berlin.
Impressive then the backdrop of the Gendarmenmarkt, the German and the French Cathedral, in between the concert hall, monuments of monarchic urban architecture. We marvel at what in democratic Switzerland would never have overcome the hurdle of a poll by the people: too big, too expensive, a waste of space. We smile ... we still have time to warm ourselves with coffee and rolls, then we drive for the first time subway: Back to the hotel, then to the airport, everything runs smoothly. We wait a while until we can get in. But I'm glad to have everyone with me again. A quiet flight takes us to Zurich, again tension: do you all have your luggage? Then escalators lead us to the basement, entrance of the train to Lucerne on track four …
Moritz Stirnimann
The monk Jodokus looked in the diary
(Continuation)
Father Jost Stirnimann (monastic name Jodokus, Jodok) lived from 1654 - 1706, of which 36 years in the monastery Muri, AG. In the years 1695 - 1697 he followed closely the course of the construction work on the today's monastery church. The original of his diary is in the archive of the College Sarnen. In the next newsletter we publish a part of this diary. Here already the 12th episode.
On May 29, Herr Dominicus Suri, our economist in Klingenberg, who managed this office for twenty years happily and prudently, died in the Lord's house.
On the 1st of June we celebrated the funeral ceremonies of the mentioned Mr. Suri, with solemn absorption in choir, with *** and candles to the "Libera nos.”
Today, after the vespers, the abbot called all the capitulars present into the hypocausus of the priests, and consulted whether Sandegg's reign on Lake Constance near Klingenberg was to be bought, and it was decided that it should be bought, albeit with certain requirements for the seller, otherwise by no means.
On the 3rd of June our abbot traveled to Klingenberg to inspect the Klingenberg economy after the death of the mentioned econom, and to buy the said Sandegg estate. As a traveling companion he had P. Colom- banus.
On Monday, June 15, I set out for Villmergen in the afternoon to recover and also to take care of the Blessed Virgin Mary until the newly elected chaplain, Johannes Jacobus Bernardus Achlin, arrived. I lived with the pastor Matthias Honegger in his house, and dined at his table. But I have given it that. On June 24, I was recalled from Villmergen and came home at 6 o'clock in the evening, on the day of St. John the Baptist.
On the 29th of June, on the day of St. Peter and Paul, our Fr. Boniface set out for the spa of the Weidenmaß. On the 10th of July, on the eve of the remembrance of St. Benedict, we had a solemn examination in the afternoon in our new museum.
On the 12th of July, on the Sunday of the Holy Angel towards the end of the Completorium, the whitefly shot into the hut, but it did not light it because it only struck the mover, and did no great harm otherwise.
On the 14th of July, shortly before 8 o'clock in the evening, the sounder, with too much weed, with her clasped stirrings, has brought in the full-blown cornices, so that they can not bring anything out of the first two, because they both thunder under one and First of all: outside the step you almost got everything out of hand. the superstring memories, and moreover, have, with great necessity, been rehearsed and preserved.
On the 24th of July, a large elephant was worthy of the attention that his guides from the upper inn, where they had spent the night, led to the monastery after the morning Mass. When he had been led into the auditorium, without anyone preceding him, he climbed the steps to the upper part and entered through the open entrance the convent and from there directly the hypocaust of the convent, whose entrance was also open.
When he entered, he turned in the middle of the room, stood still, and awaited the coming people, as if he had human possessions.
On the 26th of July, the 11th Sunday after Whitsun, the Most Reverend Abbot of Engelberg, Mr. Placidus Hess from Rapperswil, was crowned. On the 13th of August the chapter came together and included two school-boys in the novitiate, namely [unles.] Müller from Zug, the son of a widow, and [unles.] Studer from Lucerne, the son of the present Lantvogt studer. The speech was delivered by Mr. Studer.
On the 16th of August our abbot with Father Andreas went to Klingenberg to buy the domain Sandegg, which was done. He returned to our walls on the 24th of August around 9 o'clock in the morning.
On August 31, the abbot celebrated a chapter in which he explained to the capitulars the purchase of the Sandegg estate, which he had recently acquired from the Jesuits of Constance.
He also occupied in this chapter after proclaimed exhortation some vacant posts. First, he appointed P. Anselmus Weissenbach, our prior, economist in Klingenberg. In his place he appointed Father Petrus Odermatt, our economist, as Prior. Because Father Meinradus Weil, our Subprior, had resigned, Fr. Antonius, the confessor in Eschenbach, was appointed Subprior , For him, P. Meinradus, the former subprior, became a confessor there.
Furthermore, in my place, Custos Superior has been appointed P. Hieronymus, who had previously been Custos Inferior. In his place is P. Andreas.
Furthermore, Fr. Gregorius was appointed schoolmaster for Fr. Ambrosius, who had given up this post because of the confessional office in Eschenbach. Fr. Joachim has been appointed teacher of novices.
On 3 September, Fr. Anselmus, the prior prior, left for Klingenberg in the afternoon to provide the economy there. On Sunday, the 20th of September, the eve of St. Matthew, the abbot called the chapter after the vespers and asked if our dead knight Andreas was again to be dismissed for just reasons, which should not be mentioned here if he was reimbursed for the services rendered to the monastery. The Chapter decided to dismiss him after payment of the benefits, for they thought him useless in the monastery.
Further, in this chapter he appointed a new economist, P. Victor Redig, the Granarius. For this he made me unworthy of Granarius. Thank God. For this was accomplished by the Lord, and was a wonder in the eyes of men, and outside of what I and all others had expected. Is God with us, who can be against us? It is better to trust the Lord than man.
1694
On the 24th of January we celebrated in the monastery that of Pope Innocent XII. proclaimed jubilee for the restoration of peace among the Christians, also the court workers, servants and maids.
On January 31, the anniversary was proclaimed and celebrated in our parishes and in other parishes.

On February 5, an envoy from Lucerne traveled sent by the gentlemen from Lucerne to negotiate with us about the Nottwiler business. For this reason, on the morning of February 6, our Abbot called the chapter together to discuss what Lucerne had to answer.
On the 16th of February, shortly after 6 o'clock in the morning, a session of the chapter was held, in which a devout kitchen maid of our monastery from Klingenberg, who has proved herself in service for many years, as reward and act of faith at her request as sister in the The lap of our convent, or the congregation of the brothers and sisters included in our convent.
In the middle of Lent on March N, our P. Leontius set off for Klingenberg, where at that time a large part of the castle collapsed.
On the 19th of April and the following days, they put the roof on the lower of our new buildings, against the blacksmiths on the outer yard, whereupon the new mill will be built.
On April 25, delegates from Lucerne were here: Mr. Johannes Martinus Schweizer with a commissioner to negotiate with us about the Nottwiler business. Their demands were by and large four. Firstly, that a chaplain should be admitted in Nottwil, whom the Lucerne people could choose, but we could propose.
