Dear relatives and acquaintances,

Dear members and friends of our family association

"There is nothing more constant than the inconsistency." With the quote from Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen, German writer (17.03.1622 - 17.08.1676) I warmly welcome you in the association year 2018.

Every year, year after year, I have the impression that the familiar, the traditional and the familiar are changing faster and faster. A rest in the tried and tested is hardly possible. However, I am not always sure if this is actually a modern-day phenomenon or is more related to my aging. As a consolation I come to the conclusion that it must be both. Either way, new and unknown things always stir up fear and uncertainty among all people. These are unpleasant emotional states, which shake us up and usually call for activities, that is to say changes. Although this may seem negative at first glance, survival and the progress of humanity will probably only have been possible thanks to these startling emotional states. Surely, the factor of curiosity and, ultimately, his belief in the good and responsibility to God and our world will have contributed to our species evolving to the present day.

When change hits me in my patterns of thinking and behaving, the matter is far more complex than theoretically discussing it. Now you are yourself attack point. The quality of life is greatly reduced by such "attacks", especially in the mental area, and depending on self-esteem and down-to-earthness you will react differently or not.

On the one hand, when I always preach to my employees that they have to see all the changes as opportunities, on the other hand, when it comes to myself, I repeatedly find myself in diffuse emotional states, which do not really want to recognize the well-promised opportunities. It would be nicer to be able to rest in the acquaintance, perhaps also in the comfort of being able to live and enjoy everything as before. But when you face the fact and the laws of nature that everything that lives and exists is always subject to change, the necessary push for change is appropriate and important. Finally, in retrospect, I have to concede again and again that most of the imposed changes were not so bad, at least when I was ready for life, I made a big step forward.

When I look at the theme of "changes" in a cosmic dimension, our whole being, our environment, our all is nothing but a steady change of energies whose origin comes from "nothingness" and is indefinable to us. As a religious person, I speak of the "divine," because everything overstretches our earthly thinking. And now I allow myself a daring thought to us humans, our relationships and our families. After all, every person has a unique biological relationship with his mother and father and a traditionally standardized relationship with his siblings and, ultimately, his fellow human beings. Cosmically, however, the invisible, energetic relationships may be quite different. Perhaps you yourself know an example in which one finds another person very sympathetic or somehow has an invisible wire to him. It's like having already known each other or even being related. I myself know people where this "wire" to other people feels better than their own siblings. That's always very exciting. A person skilled in the field of medicine has spoken to me about "soul relationships" which we can not substantiate with our profession. So finally I come to the perhaps daring opinion that our standardized "family thinking" within our social structures is indeed given and important for our culture, but that each family member with increasing age is not forced to stand in a family role where it is no longer wants to stand. There are families where children have broken off contact with their parents or even with ghosts. There are families where outsiders are more or less like relatives. From this point of view, the word "family" may well be extended to include people with soul mates.

Some time ago, the board decided to hold the next family meeting on April 22, 2018 in Muri AG. What could be more natural than to go to the place where Father Jost Stirnimann lived as a religious and gave us interesting insights into the monastic life of the time with his diary. The board has designed an interesting program and is already looking forward to your coming. In any case, it will be a special conference, because there are interesting things to see and hear, but also according to my input words in the sense of the change. So there will be some changes in the board and after twenty years too I am allowed to hand over the presidency to new hands. Log in, the invitation with the daily program is enclosed with this newsletter.

For the second time you hold the newsletter at the beginning of the year in your hands. A new year lies before us, again with much of the unstable, much new, much unknown. But if you continue to know reliable, supportive people around you, your fears about what's coming will be limited. In this spirit, I would like to thank my colleagues very much for the varied, larger and smaller work that they are always making in favor of the family association and I look forward to the remainder of my time on the Executive Board. It was a profitable time for me. Finally, I would like to thank you, dear members of the Association, for your loyalty and solidarity with our family organization and I wish you all the best for the new year, good luck and much more, and remain with the Irish blessing …

"Love and laughter may lighten your days and warm your hearth and your home. May you have good and faithful friends in your ways, may peace and friends bless your world and may all the seasons of life give you and your loved ones the best. “

Kind regards "ond of Wederluege in Muri"

President Beat Stirnimann

20 years president of the Family Association

Beat Stirnimann, Ruswil

And the circle closes. With the association excursion to Colmar in May 2017, I returned almost 21 years later to the area in which I was elected as the new president of the family association on 8 September 1996, in Kaysersberg in Alsace.

Irmgard and Beat Stirnimann-Stäger

In fact a very special choice, because I was not present at all, and had sent my twin brother Thomas as my deputy, so that you could make a rough, visual picture of the new president.

A short time later there was a reportage in the "Rottal Ad" with all three presidents of the family association. These were Hans Stirnimann-Haupt, who served as the founding president from 1974 until May 15, 1977, as president, after which Josef Stirnimann-Haas took over the presidency for almost 20 years until September 8, 1996. Special mention should be made of the fact that all three presidents had exercised the activity of the "schoolmaster". With our designated President Moritz Stirnimann, Lucerne, this tradition is preserved.

The first contacts with the family organization were made through my parents and "our professor" Dr. theol. Joseph Stirnimann, who visited us here and there. So it was quickly settled that the two little twin boys (Thomas and I) from the Cloven Honey (Hof in Ruswil) had to recite a poem in the Ruswil parish home on the occasion of the founding assembly on September 8, 1974. This endeavor was very influential for me, especially since at that time about 180 people were present in the parish hall and it was necessary to recite the poem "Bauhaus" by Fridolin Hofer by heart and without mistakes.

A few years later I was allowed to buy my wish instrument "Clarinet" and attend music school lessons. And as luck would have it, the clarinet teacher was none other than Josef Stirnimann-Haas, at that time active association president. It was thanks to this fact that Josef and his clarinet students were always in small musical formations on stage, and that's why I had musical appearances with Josef at the family conferences in Wyher Castle in Ettiswil, and later in the Gasthaus Rössli, Ruswil , Finally we had later through the common membership in the Musikverein Ruswil increased contact and lively exchange, which led to the request of Josef Stirnimann in 1995 to take over the presidency of the family association. After he assured me of his support and support for the first year of the presidency, I agreed to work for the post without ever having worked on the board.

The work of the board over all these many years has always been shaped by two questions: on the one hand, the research work occupied us. With the death of Professor Dr. theol. Joseph Stirnimann lost the volume of authoritative, professional competence in family research. Thanks to him, by the way, our family is well and correctly researched from a scientific point of view. On the other hand, there was always the question of how we can lead the family association into a good future and keep it attractive. In this regard, we also had to face the new media, in other words the Internet, and position ourselves accordingly. We always attached importance to a cautious appearance and action, which proved to be correct over the years. In addition to the then multi-day trip to Kaysersberg in Alsace and the various family reunions in different places certainly the Berlin trip 2015 and the Colmar trip 2017 may be considered as highlights of the last twenty years.

As the saying goes in my school office: "The past is history, the future is a mystery, but every moment is a gift." So we do not know what the future holds, and the past will hopefully stay in good memory.

But today we can enjoy it as a gift and look forward to the future, because I am convinced that the direction we want to take for our family association is right. In any case, I wish the new board and the President-elect Moritz all the best, lots of energy and, in all things, a happy hand.

Your resigning President

The monk Jodokus looked in the diary

(Continuation)

Father Jost Stirnimann (monastic name Jodokus, Jodok) lived from 1654 - 1706, of which 36 years in the monastery Muri, AG. In the years 1695 - 1697 he followed attentively the progress of the construction work on today's Klosterkirche.

The original of his diary is in the archive of the College Sarnen. In the next newsletter we publish a part of this diary. Here already the 14th episode.

On the 24th of September, a dangerous fire was produced at Oschenbach: in the meantime by the smith Camin Flamen, in a barnlin, still driven, driven, the same on fire: from there the smiths themselves, with two hollers and frolics: and because of the wind starck. is also that the monastery in the greatest degree of danger: And scarcely as could have been received: in the already the hüöler and schweinställ, which within the ringmur in the gardten gestuonden: as well as that Kornhauß. nice to start to brurn: and have again and again would like to be extinguished.

On the 26th of September the Newwengätter in the choir was made again. From about the beginning of October the great Orggana was repudiated: in the New Churches: gradually received: with the continuation: that they were started: at the end of the month: again to stimulate: the 28th dito: in festo: SS. December. Capitel was held on the 1st decembris: there an exchange of the offices in Klingenberg took place. Because the local economist, P. Anselmus, was seriously ill and so weakened that there was no hope that he would recover. In his place Fr. Bonaventura, the pastor of Bünzen, was appointed an economist. His parish is still vacant and will be looked after by the younger Fathers until the next change. The pastor of Hohenburg, Fr. Luitfridus, has also been called home, and Fr. Martinus, in his place, became priest there, who at that time was Vestiarius. The Vestiarium remains vacant until the next change.

On 4 December in the morning died in Mr. P. Anselmus in Klingenberg, the former economist.

At 8 o'clock in the morning of December 9, Fr. Bonaventura and Fr. Martinus set out for their offices in Klingenberg. Yesterday afternoon they said goodbye to the convent after the vesper meal.

On December 20, a chapter was held in which some ministries were swapped and the vacant were re-awarded. The Bünzener parish was given to P. Luitfridus, the former pastor in Hohenburg. The vacant Vestiarium was given to P. Hieronymus, who had previously been Custos. In his place came P. Ambrosius.

1697

On the 2nd of March, around 3 o'clock in the afternoon, P. Victor, our economist, died. On April 10, a chapter was held in which some offices were swapped.

For the deceased P. Victor P. Aegidius was made an economist, who at that time was pastor in Muri. In his place came P. Meinradus, who had been a confessor in Eschenbach and an instructor of the lay brothers. In his place, P. Franciscus confessor in Eschenbach and P. Ambrosius, who had been custos, instructor of the lay brothers. In his place became P. Gabriel Custos, who had been the first ceremonial. For him, P. Heinricus has been appointed to the ceremony.

On the 9th of April, the neüwe under Mühler, Jodocus Reyen, son of Lehnmühler von Bosnaus, arrives and starts his service.

On April 27, at about six o'clock in the afternoon, the Rev. Nuncio of Lucerne came here with a retinue of seventeen horsemen on his journey to Rheinau, where he wanted to consecrate Abbot Geroldus Zurlauben, the brother of our abbot. The abbot traveled with him, as did P. Hieronymus, P. Gabriel and our chancellor.

On the 1st of May, on the day of St. Philip and Jacobus, the consecration of the said Abbot of Rheinau was celebrated.

On May 4, the Rev. Nuncio and his entire entourage from Rheinau returned to our walls. The next day, the fourth Sunday after Easter, he consecrated our new monastery church, but only with the altar of St. Leontius, the other altars not. Afterwards he left for Lucerne immediately after lunch. On the same day, but before lunch, our abbot left for Einsiedeln to attend the Congregation for some of the collections that the cantons had solicited from our monasteries.

On May 8, the abbot of Rheinau came here on the way home from Einsiedeln. The next day he took lunch with us in the refectory of the Convention, according to the Rule of the Order, but with entertainment.

On September 16, the Abbot with Fr. Georg left for Italy to visit the holy places in Friuli. From there he has traveled to Milan. There he received a beautiful and valuable fabric A silver stucco in vilied blooms of siden and gold. a gantz ornat, 1 antipendi, 1 mass robe have been made. 2 cormorants. 4 Levites röck. the Rodt schnitzel in the Egg made him happy.

On September 23 and the following days, the roof was put on the new construction of the women's shelter. On this day came very gratifying news of the brilliant victory of the Christians over the Turks in Hungary, which had been won on the Teiss, not far from Peter Warden.

On October 31, the abbess of Hermetschwil, Maria Anna N.N. from Glarus, deceased. In her place Margarita N. from Lucerne has been elected.

On December 13, three young men were admitted to the novitiate to all three students: Michael brüner of Emman: [unles.]

On the 30th of December Jacob Buochen in Beinwil was made abbot of the Amtmann. On December 31, there was a chapter in which the purchase of [unles.] Was discussed. Furthermore, Fr. Ambrosius has been appointed instructor.

1698

On the 24th of January Herr Obervogt from Eppishausen was here, on behalf of his lords Baron von Dannhausen, with the bailiff of Eppishausen because of the same rule. it would be so nice. For this reason, after the morning Mass, the chapter was convened in which the purchase was discussed. It has been unanimously agreed to buy this rule so that it does not fall into the hands of heretics. So it is still the same day for 50 000 guilders and all umb köst: bought without the deduction, to the great joy and relief of the bailiff and the you to give us to heaps: that was also the Lord Episcopus Constantziensis. his own: that is, the one created by all the servants.

An even greater fortune was added when the Bishop of Constance gave us the chapel in Eppishausen, with the understanding that as long as we employ a monk there from the monastery, we insert into our ministry a secular priest included in our monastery. So the parish office in Eggenwil has been selected by us. This agreement seemed good to us because it confirmed our prerogative of occupying the offices involved with monks.

On the 14th of April, our brother Udelrich has again let himself be cut by Mrl. Stridli huttart von Eyenbergschweil: on the two sides: on the one and the same silk: because he had not been cut right before, that is, that his property had become worse: as if he had never been cut. on the other side: because he got a new break. So, Curiret has been happy: but it will have a survival.

On May 24, Br. Benedictus received the sacred ordination of the subdeacon in Lucerne.

On May 30, our Abbot traveled with Fr. Prior, Fr Nicolaus, and the Chancellor to Eppishausen, where, on the 2nd of June, they would pay homage to their subjects, which was happily accomplished on the same day.

On the 4th of January, three brothers wrote: Br. Gallus from Emmen, Br. Geraldus from Haimbstülingen and Br. Leontius Mettler from Schwyz.

On April 5, on Passion Sunday, Br. Fintanus Güntlin from Baden did his profession.

Travel report of the association trip to Colmar

Superman, Batman, Stirnimann

The driveway presents itself in the most beautiful summer dress, the sky is clear blue, a cloudless day, nature in green spring joy and hard-working men gather around the KKL to collect the waste of the night that civilization literally opens up on a balmy summer's night Streets and places had vomited. Brave machines are good-naturedly sucking in the heaps and Lucerne is still showing off its well-supported chocolate side today. Unbelievingly shaking my head - Beat, my cousin, almost ran into my arms at the post office, and on the island there were the restless relatives, who were suffering from short sleep and were waiting in the sun for the "Zurkirchen bus". We knew each other, talked about the last two years and what moved the world. Buses drove up, people climbed in and out, and the big vehicles left the island again, only Zurkirchen was missing. 07:25 Beat comes to the driver as a precautionary measure, hoping he is just around the corner, but nothing happened and the clarifying telephone conversation advised the driver to leave immediately for Malter's garage while our women searched for the sunshine to warm themselves. Departure postponed, flew through the airwaves, but also a "we come from the Stirnimann Express!"

And indeed, there he was: Toni with his Volvo XXL, 48 seats, for 24 passengers. The baggage was carried out in an urgent procedure, the boarding went smoothly with six passengers, the engine howled, we were on the way to the sun place in Emmenbrücke, from there we flew to Neuenkirch and then further into the home country to Ruswil and Buttisholz. Nature showed itself in her most beautiful dress: deep green, vigorous germination everywhere; in the power of the warm days every tree and every plant stretched, the morning spectacle of nature rewarded our waiting. In Nottwil we received a lying in the sun golden Sempachersee and our crowd became larger and grew again at the station Sursee. Beat tested the completeness; the bus was in Toni's hands, which is in front of the hood, Volvo, I move, I drive. Toni, our driver was almost one of us in the meantime, himself a "Rusmeler," and Beat greeted everyone in a presidential address. The further journey was in lively discussions. The cantons of Aargau, Solothurn and Basel-Land and -Stadt were seen and crossed, crossed a border to France, without anybody would have noticed, and so we reached our first destination, the "Ecomusée d'Alsace" as planned. Beat struggled with the "administration," we strolled behind and got the last instructions for lunch …

The "Ecomusée" is something like the Ballenberg of Alsace. The idea of preserving ancient cultural heritage gives life to a small village, as it would have been 100 years ago in Alsace. We enjoy the buildings, the old crafts and especially the storks that nest, clatter and brood here in large numbers. The lunch gives us a first impression of the Alsatian cuisine: I will not shake the impression that the Alsatian loves vegetables, but does not like to prepare them. In addition he eats in exceptionally large quantities, the plate with the potato gratin was huge in any case and he prefers drinking white wine. Full and full bellies, we enjoy the wonderful weather in alleys and alleys of the museum, stroll through the Schulschwänzergasse again and search the "Liebesgasse."

In Colmar we are staying at the Hotel Bristol ... a house on the station square, the ... dinner calls us to the "Brasserie l'Auberge" next to the hotel. Beat, our president, is attracted to a speech, he greets our father and family and cultural historian Georges Stirnemann and his sympathetic wife Geneviève. Thanks to her, the Alsatian white wine shines at my table; Thanks to her origins in a family of winegrowers, she has a keen sense for a truly enjoyable drop. The huge piece of rhubarb pie makes me believe that Alsatians like to savor luscious, abundant, and over-indulgent meals while they do not like the knife so much; a cut more and it would have pieces (chen) emerged that would have "Schwizermass". So a digestive walk is almost inevitable and Georges leads us from place to place with great certainty and rich knowledge, while the dusk slowly gives way to the night.

Group photo in Colmar

How much we travel in Alsace in a borderland, in an intercultural space, is shown on the second day. We drive to Haut-Koenigsbourg, the flagship of the "German" par excellence. The history of the almost 1000-year-old walls is rich and full of vicissitudes. The reconstruction by German architects under Emperor Wilhelm II is today by the Alsatians - I dare not say French, because Alsatians are like the Corsicans, not part of the Gaulish Empire - celebrated as a brilliant achievement. And that is exactly what it should be: Wilhelm wanted to show the reconquered Alsace in 1871, in which great empire they were returned. If one looks at the castle today, it represents a paradox: it is a living building ruin, was never used since its completion in 1910, never played a military role; she is uselessly beautiful and attracts a huge number of tourists. The trip to H.K. was almost more spectacular than the castle itself: we drive through incredibly beautiful cultural landscapes, through pretty villages, through a perfect world. Newly created weight limits force the driver into complicated turning maneuvers, narrow streets in picturesque Alsatian villages call for new solutions for cruising; sometimes nothing works, until finally one gives in again. Around noon, our ship carries us to "Schlettstadt", as the Alsatian says, if he were French, he would lead to Sélestat. Here a great duck awaits us on an orange roast jus and unfortunately only moderate Pinot Noir in the restaurant "au pied du boeuf". Georges Stirnemann introduces us to the "International Center for Human Rights", which he runs on a voluntary basis, and starting from his lecture, we walk through the small old town. In the evening George takes us to the restaurant "Pont de la Fecht," in a typical Alsatian country picket. Sitting together, talking, exchanging ... We end the evening in the brasserie in front of the hotel.

Once again a rich breakfast buffet invites you to linger and gradually the group arrives in front of the hotel. The keys are delivered, the luggage stowed in the deep belly of the car. Beat counts and gives the driver the "good" to drive. It does not go far, but according to the specifications of George at two or three corners, then it means getting out and marching. George shows us in fine weather his Colmar, which was formerly Colombarium and consisted essentially of two farms, the upper and the lower. From these farms a village was built in Roman times, then through the vicissitudes of history a city, sometimes with, sometimes without walls. George proves to be a leader with rich historical and art historical knowledge, and a great anecdotal treasure.

In front of the cathedral, he explained to us the many figures that adorned the portal, all symbols of human activity up to the point of perverts. What does the frog mean, what does the gnome figure mean? The Middle Ages now seem richer and more lifelike than many thought, "So if they go to hell, they choose French hell," said George, "that's the mildest thing: fire does not go then, then it will not be Fuel or it is just going on strike or the guard has an appointment and can not do the service. " So we walk from house to house, from symbol to symbol. Anyone who has eyes to see recognizes the naked woman of the Schmids as well as the hulless at the house "Pfister", understands the rune-like ornaments at the half-timbered house or the grimaces at the house of the "123 vanities." Georges storytelling is rich and he tells us wonderful stories from his life, stories full of mischief and irony. At the "Pfeffel" in front of the Unterlinden museum we sit wearily at the tables on the covered terrace. Wine, beer, mineral water, whatever your heart desires. And here he is finally on the table: the real, the unique, the true Alsatian tarte flambée ...

Moritz Stirnimann

Final words of our President:

First of all I thank Moritz Stirnimann very much for the very exciting travelogue of our Colmar trip. As Moritz still had another destination in Germany on the drivage days, he left us on Sunday afternoon, which is why he finished his report here.

On Sunday afternoon, after lunch, the visit to the Dreilinden Museum with the world-famous Isenheim Altar was on the program, where Georges once again served as a well-versed history expert and could tell us innumerable details. I would like to thank him and for all his support and support in Colmar.

On late Sunday afternoon, May 28, 2017, we drove off home
